Rennet-Free Cheese Board for Picky Eaters and Cheese Snobs

I made this Cheese Board for my family Super Bowl party because it truly satisfies all sorts of picky eaters (and every single member of my family is identified as such). This cheese board is inspired by my cravings and those of my cousins, aunts, uncles, and parents. It is loosely based on the typical cheese board arrangement—a variety of textures and harmonious accompaniments.

The Cheeses

Sartori Espresso-Crusted BellaVitano: Sartori makes vegetarian (rennet-free) cheeses such as parmesan which I use on a daily basis. The espresso-crusted bellavitano is closer to a mild cheddar than a parmesan but is really fun in place of a Parmigiano Reggiano.

Kerrygold Skellig Cheese: A mild sweet cheddar from Ireland. Kerrygold makes amazingly rich dairy products for reasonable prices.

La Bonne Vie Brie: A delicious and rich brie, not too funky but still packs a ton of flavor.

BelGioioso Bocconcini Mozzarella: Put some bite-sized fresh mozzarella in a separate dish soaking in brine. A real crowd-pleaser.

Swiss: Typically my family prefers Jarlsberg but there are plenty of rennet-free alternatives. Look for microbial/vegetarian rennet options at Trader Joe’s or any major grocery store.

Foodies or Cheese Connoisseurs would definitely hate this cheese board, as it includes some of the most basic mild cheeses and excludes funky flavors such as Blue Cheese. We just don’t like blue cheese in our family, so it stayed out!
